1984 Hurst/Olds – End of a Great Performance Run
GM after the release of the 1964 Pontiac GTO capped the cubic inches (of engine displacement) at 400 for its V8s on all its intermediate. If you wanted more cubic inches in a GM car you had to either buy a full-size (B-body or C-body) or a Corvette. The 400 cubic inch limit was not bad; GM’s muscle cars were still pretty competitive even if Ford and Chrysler were packing more cubic inches in their intermediates. This is the continuation of Part 1: Coastal Southern California Ford Explorer Crusade.
As the Ford Explorer continued its journey north from Mission Beach on Interstate 5 (the San Diego Freeway) – a route that takes a nice path close to the Pacific Ocean starting around La Jolla. A few glimpses towards the west the beautiful blue Pacific can be seen at times at higher elevations.
